Timing Monitoring: Following the White Rabbit
- Francisco Girela Lopez - FPGA Engineer, Seven Solutions
Several critical infrastructures depend on timing for correct operation. Historically, this need has been solved with GNSS-based systems exposing those infrastructures to several vulnerabilities related to attacks or interferences with the navigation signals. However, during the last years a rising concern has led to the adoption of a variety of PNT systems that coexist in timing networks.
The complexity of timing devices has increased due to the adoption of redundant timing sources, the diversity of available solutions and the rising accuracy requirements. White Lynx is a monitoring tool that benefits from White Rabbit time synchronization to obtain a high accuracy timing reference which is used to precisely measure the performance of multiple and diverse PNT sources in one single device. This advancement allows the checking of network health status in centralized locations, easing the day to day network operation.
