GNSS for Timing Sync in Telecom

GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) is used to describe the collection of Satellite Systems that are operating or planned. There are many Satellite constellation systems already available. These constellations allows ground base GNSS receivers to receive radio signals from these satellites and recover accurate location and time. Location and Time both are primary uses cases for many technologies, specifically for Telecom Network Operator, Timing use case is very important. Typical telecom networks synchronization works in a hierarchal manner where core network is connected to stratum 1 clock and the clock is distributed along the network in a tree like structure. With GPS receiver however, clocking can be changed to a flat architecture where access networks can directly take clock from satellites in sky using on-board GPS chips. Here , will talk about the use of GNSS with G.8275.1 and G.8275.2 (A-PTS) for high accuracy. We shall discuss on the testbed and the procedure to do in Lab Environment.
