GNSS System Outages and Their Effect on Timing

Thursday | 1:50 - 2:10 pm

GNSS systems serve as the principal source of accurate time for critical infrastructure such as telecommunications, the energy sector, and the financial industry. In January 2016, the GPS system experienced an anomaly lasting a day, and in July 2019 the Galileo system experienced an outage lasting one week. This paper will explore in depth with measurements taken during these events along with data logging the effects on time and the nature of the recovery once the GNSS system anomalies were corrected. Approaches to mitigating events such as these will be summarized.
