Part I: Fundamentals of Timing and Synchronization

Monday | -

Part I of the Tutorial Session covers the fundamentals of timing and synchronization.  The material covered includes descriptions of why timing is important, important sources of time and timing, essentials of timing systems such as oscillators and phase locked loops, and measurement methods for quantifying timing performance.  Network topologies require that timing be distributed so that every network element is “on time” within a certain limit that is prescribed by Standards.  Methods for distributing timing over TDM as well as packet networks are explained.
