This paper discusses the synchronization challenges in 5G networks and the different synchronization architectures that can be deployed to address those challenges. Synchronization is a key feature in 5G networks with even tighter requirements than in the past.  This paper goes also over the various synchronization technologies and standards that could be deployed to address those requirements with the advantages and potential problems. These synchronization technologies and standards have to be deployed in the context of the Telecom transformation towards an open, flexible, software-driven and disaggregated network
